2012 - 2013 Testimonials

"Jaeger" from our 2012 litter. He now lives in Georgia and has hunted grouse and woodcock in Wisconsin, pheasant in North Dakota and is now (as you can see in the photo) pointing quail in Georgia.

"Thought you guys would appreciate this photo.  Jaeger is locked up on a quail and my hunting partner (neighbor) is moving in for the shot.  Looks like a painting doesn't it!  Had another great hunt today - harvested 15 birds between us over Jaeger's points."

And more recently, from David, "This dog can flat out hunt at 13 months old! Released 10 birds at quail preserve and he found all 10 plus an extra. All I do is walk around watching in amazement and shoot them for him. He's even nice enough to retrieve them for me."

Eau Pleine Shorthairs - History

In the spring of 1974 I visited Kentwood game farm, owned by Kent Murdock , northwest of Shawano, Wisconsin. It was there that I purchased Shatze's Buck, the foundation stud of Eau Pleine Shorthairs.

My good friend and hunting partner Mike Rutz (now of Eden Prairie, MN) obtained Becky Von Rutzhausen, that same year, the foundation bitch of the Eau Pleine bloodlines.

These two dogs with a background containing Serakraut, Strauss, Moesgaard and Enzstrand produced scores of puppies, of which several females were kept to carry on this line of close-working gun dogs.

In 1983 I obtained a replacement stud dog, Eau Pleine Kane, to breed back to and strengthen the original foundation stock. Kane proved to be an excellent addition to the Eau Pleine bloodline, producing many excellent offspring and winning the 1990 Wisconsin Woodcock Championship.

Beginning in 1986 , Eau Pleine Kennels used the services of Tim Wilder's (Warrens, WI) male, Tim's Buddy.  Later his son, Sand Prairie Partner, the 1989 Wisconsin Woodcock Champion was used.  More recently Tim's male, Bud Man IV was brought to our kennel for breeding purposes.

Since 1992, Eau Pleine Kennels has offered as stud Eau Pleine Buck. At twenty three inches and seventy pounds, Buck has sired many fine litters of grouse and woodcock gun dogs at our kennels, in north central Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota and has placed in Wisconsin's Woodcock Championship.  Buck was retired from breeding in 2002.

In 2002, Eau Pleine Dakota, son of Eau Pleine Buck, began his role at stud for the kennel.  He placed first in the puppy stake of the 1999 Wisconsin Woodcock Championship and has a great future in the field and uplands.  Eau Pleine Rocky, b.rother of Dakota from a repeat breeding, has been added for stud service.

In 2010, Eau Pleine Kennels obtained a black and tan male Field Bred English Cocker Spaniel named "Buster" from one of the nation's top FBECS kennels, Fallen Wings of Hilbert, Wisconsin.  In 2011, two  black and tan FBECSs from a breeder in Cleveland, Ohio.  Watch for future litters of these wonderful flushing dogs in the years to come!

As of 2011, Eau Pleine Kennels has nearly 4 decades of experience in breeding German Shorthaired Pointers and plans to carry this bloodline into the future.
